"Sloansville, Feb. 20.---Sloansville and vicinity were greatly saddened when it was learned that Mrs. Ann E. Petteys, wife of Richard Petteys had gone to her eternal reward. Her death occurred at the Petteys-Boyd home Tuesday afternoon, February 13, caused by complications following grip. Mrs. Petteys was born 76 years ago in Fulton county and was the daughter of Benjamin and Huldah Cady Eaton. In 1852 she was united in marriage to Richard Petteys and since that time has resided in this vicinity, coming to Sloansville when Mr. Petteys purchased of D. H. Gordon the mercantile business now known as Petteys & Boyd's. In early life she united with the Universalist church, but on coming to Sloansville became an attendant of the Baptist church. Mrs. Petteys is survived by her husband, two stepsons, Orrin and Edwin; two sons, Jesse and Lewis Jr.; one daughter, Fannie, wife of E. J. Boyd of the Petteys-Boyd firm, and also by Hiram Eaton and John K. Eaton, brothers, and nephews and nieces in this and other states. The funeral was held at the home Friday afternoon, the Rev. Elwyn Baker officiating. Interment was in the Sloansville cemetery. A loyal, loving wife ad mother, an efficient homemaker, a kind, considerate and helpful friend and a conscientious Christian, Mrs. Petteys will be greatly missed in home, church and community circles."
