"George F. Leamon, 70, brother of a Canajoharie resident, was fatally injured early Monday afternoon when struck by a large section of tubing he was helping install on a farm near Esperance. State Police Investigator R.J. Amszynski said the elderly man was struck when the top 10-foot section of a silo loading tube fell and hit him on the head. The accident happened on the farm of Arthur Merklen, Star Route, Central Bridge, about 12:30 Monday afternoon. Mr. Leamon, who suffered a skull fracture and internal injuries, died on the operating table at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady a short time later. Cause of death was given as a collapsed lung. Mr. Leamon was a native of Central Bridge and have lived there all his life. He owned and operated the farm on which the accident occurred until his recent retirement. He was a member of the Welling Lodge, Odd Fellows, the Schoharie Valley Grange and the Central Bridge Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ina Johnson of Miami, Fla. and Mrs. May Richtmyer of Canajoharie. Several nieces and nephews also survive."
