Bess graduated from Caldwell High School in 1940. She married Bruno. B. Duewall on February 3, 1942, they celebrated their sixtieth anniversary before his death in 2002.

She worked as a seamstress and was known for making beautiful dresses, formal gowns, wedding gowns and costumes. She later worked in health care for Dr. John Pravel, Dr. Joe Smith, Dr. Glenn Cochran, and Dr. Barker Stigler, where she made many lifelong friends.

After her retirement she took care of her husband and made beautiful quilts. She belonged to three quilting guilds and her “Killer Bees” circle. Each of her family members has one of her quilts made especially for him or her. She also spent many happy hours with her friend from childhood Eloise Philp. They had a special reserved table at the Surrey Inn where they visited with Rob Sneider and everyone who came in for lunch every day.

She was known for her Italian Crème Cake donation to the Caldwell Fire Department’s annual fund raiser. These special friends honored her on her 95th birthday with a dinner and birthday cake at Copperas Hollow Assisted Living. stricklandfuneralhomes.com
