Abby Jean Deal, 25, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3rd in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Shepherd officiating. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Surviving is her mother and step-father, Darci and Gary Mersch of Clare; her fiance, Andrew Ashenfelter of Fort Dodge; sister, Katie Deal of Fort Dodge; her beloved dogs, Luke and Lexi; grandmothers, Pat Chalstrom and Henrietta Deal, both of Coalville; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. She is also survived by her biological father, Bert Deal. Abby was preceded in death by her brother James, and grandfathers, Dick Chalstrom and Pete Deal.
Abby Jean Deal was born September 4, 1981 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1999. In 2004 she enrolled and attended the nursing program at Iowa Central Community College until she was unable to continue because of her illness.
She was a member of the Otho United Methodist Church and the breast cancer support group at the Bliss Cancer Center in Ames.
Abby always had a mega watt smile and was such an inspiration to others. She was a very compassionate, caring, and fun loving person who will be greatly missed. She has donated her body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in order to continue to help others.
