Obituary of Leslie "Les" Carroll Adkins (edited)

Services for Leslie “Les” Adkins, 73, of Trinity, will be held on July 6, 2017, at Cross Timbers Cowboy Church, 4977 US-69, Lufkin, TX. Following the service, a graveside service will be held at Antioch Cemetery, 4416 FM 230, Lovelady, TX.

Leslie “Les” Adkins, dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed from amongst us and into the Heavenly realm at 6:41 PM on Sunday, July 2nd, not too far from his birth place 73 years ago in downtown Houston, Texas. He came to live in Trinity County 14 years ago and before that, was a lifelong resident of Houston.

He retired from the City of Houston Fire Department in the year 2000 after proudly spending 18 years at Fire Station 68, at Bissonnet and Gessner… the “hottest house in Houston!” The rest of his career he spent at the old 911 building in downtown Houston answering emergency calls. He frequently said that "answering a 911 call was like stepping into somebody's worst nightmare," but he was very good at it and earned many commendations and recognitions for his work. Always working to provide for his family, after retiring he went on to a second career in school transportation management.

Les Adkins is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 54 years, Mickey Ann; four loving sons and their wives including Pastor James Ford Adkins and wife, Angie, Clayte “Spook" Adkins and wife Kay, Clint Adkins and wife Jodi, Justin Adkins, also an unofficially adopted son/brother, Dennis Henderson. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are elder brothers Bill Adkins, Jimmy Adkins and wife, Judy. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Full obit may be obtained from Carroway Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors - July 3, 2017.
