He attended McAlester, Oklahoma schools and moved to Waco from McAlester. Lonnie then moved to O'Donnell in May of 1983 from Lake Texoma. He married Jeri McCause on March 13, 1957 in Texas. Lonnie was a sheet metal worker for Burlington Railroad. He also owned and operated the Eagles Nest Restaurant from 1984-1988. Lonnie was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Trinity Church in Tahoka. He was also Community Service Supervisor in O'Donnell and a veteran of US Navy and WWII. Lonnie was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Jeri of O'Donnell; a son, Robert C. Akard of Oklahoma City, OK; three daughters, Deloris Huffmen of Lincoln, NE, Carolyn Akard of Long Beach , CA and Janie Akard of Denver, CO; three brothers, Lester Akard of Amarillo, Lendon Akard of Dallas and Lloyd Akard of Stow, OH; two sisters, Lottie Powell of Amarillo and Lois Robertson of Abilene; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Military Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 in O'Donnell Cemetery with Rev. John Wright, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of White Funeral Home of Tahoka.
