Roy Edward Caldwell, 80, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born August 8, 1936 in the New Harmony community to the late Luther Wesley and Lydia Pearl Lee Caldwell.

He served in the U.S. Air Force Tops In Blue touring performance ensemble, where he won many awards and toured worldwide, including a performance on the Ed Sullivan Show.
He was retired from AT&T and Tel-Tech.

He was an active member of New Harmony Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and also music director for over fifty-five years. He was passionate about his music ministry, which included singing and playing his guitar for senior citizens, churches and special events. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 72.

Funeral services will be 1:00p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at New Harmony Baptist Church with Bro. Kevin Williams and Bro. Johnny Rakestraw officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Shirley Rakestraw Caldwell; their three daughters, Vicki Clayton (Dennis), Debbie Epting (Johnny) and Lana Foster (Clay); nine grandchildren: Nathan Clayton (Savannah), Kevin Clayton (Alison), Austin Epting (Kelsea), Aaron Clayton, Abby Epting, Courtney McBrayer (Casey), Trae Foster (Meg), Allie Rae Epting and Noelle Foster; and four great grandchildren, Bella, Pippa, Mary Elizabeth and Adeline.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Caldwell and two sisters, Pauline Kelly and Lenora Easley.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Cook, Bailey Spruill and John Phillips.

Visitation will be Friday, June 30, 2017 from 5:00p.m. till 8:00p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 12:00p.m. till service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to American Legion Post 72, P.O. Box 547, New Albany, MS 38652.

In honor of Mr. Caldwell’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Air Force flag during his visitation and funeral service.
