Major League Baseball Player. For six seasons (1991 to 1996), he was a pitcher with the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros. He will be remembered for setting the Major League record of most consecutive losses with 27 games. The unfortunate streak spanned two seasons (1992 until 1993). Born Anthony Wayne Young, he attended Furr High School in Houston. Initially selected by the Montreal Expos during the 10th round of the 1984 June Amateur Draft, he chose to attend the University of Houston where he played both collegiate football and baseball. Selected by the New York Mets during the 38th round of the 1987 June Amateur Draft, he made his Major League debut on August 5, 1991. During the 1992 season, Young shared closing duties with John Franco and produced career-highs with 15 saves and 52 games pitched in. In 181 career regular season games, he compiled a 15 win, 38 loss record, with a lifetime 3.89 ERA, in 460 innings-pitched. He died of complications from a brain tumor.
