Louise Burns, born February 24, 1922, on Cope Branch, Breathitt Co., and departed this life June 25, 2013 in Madison Co.

Louise was a devoted wife of Dewey Burns, a loving mother of Lois Davis, Geneva Law, Martha Mahoney and Thomas Burns.

She was a member of the Ida Mae Bible Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Burns, her parents, Dewey and Julie Johnson, and one daughter, Geneva Law.

Also, by eight brothers, Clyde, Dewey Jr., Owen, Bernice, Tom, Charlie, Ed and Frank and also one sister Ann McFarland.

She is survived by one brother Russell Johnson, and three sisters, Geneva Hodgens, Irene Ellis and Jane Jump. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and a host of close friends and relatives.

During Louise's life of 91 years, 4 months and one day she became an accomplished seamstress, a master quilter and a fabulous cook. She had a passion for her family, gardening, sewing and her friends and neighbors. She loved the rural farm life and had great stories to tell about her beloved dogs and farm animals. She was a great proponent of education and always encouraged her children and grandchildren to strive to explore all the opportunities and celebrated their achievements. She was a true survivor, having been born the eldest of 14 children, surviving cancer in 1997, and several joint replacements including both hips and knees. She survived the great depression, World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War as well as Desert Strom and the Iraq Conflict. Many beloved family members participated, and many were lost serving this country that she loved so dearly. Through her whole life she continued to revere the Lord Jesus Christ and lean upon His love and grace as He led her through the many trials and tribulations of her life. She will be missed and remembered by all who she came in contact with and whose lives she touched along her journey.

Services were held at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home with the Reverend David Fox and Rev. Jimmy Brandenburg officiating. Lori Turner and Joyce Burdine Linn were responsible for the beautiful songs. Many family and friends attended.
