Dixie Roach Kirk

Dixie Kirk died peacefully at 2:25 P.M. June 22, 2017 at the West University Nursing Center in Houston. Dixie was born September 14, 1927 at the family home near Winfield, Texas to Nora Nelson Roach and John Julian Roach. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother J. Nelson Roach. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Earl Kirk, Jr. her son Scott Kirk and wife Cheryl of Boerne, her daughter Karen and husband Gary Mueller of Little Rock, Arkansas and her daughter Camille Kirk of Katy, TX. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Dixie graduated from Winfield High School and from East Texas State University with honors and a degree in Biology. She was an intramural tennis winner and was proud to have been the fastest runner in grade school the one year she was in Castle Rock, Colorado. She left Baylor University School of Nursing to be married and the family lived in the last big boom town of Snyder, then Shreveport, Abilene, and Tulsa before reaching Houston in 1964. Dixie was a dedicated bridge player, a 30 year volunteer at Methodist Hospital and a very remarkable source of strength, support and love for her husband and family. The Funeral Service will be Monday, June 26th at St. Philip's United Methodist Church, 5501 Beechnut at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be held at Winfield Cemetery, Winfield, TX on Wednesday, June 28th at 11:00 A.M. For those wishing to make contributions in lieu of flowers, they may be made to St. Philip's United Methodist Church.
