Courtney Duwain Wells, 98, died Sunday, March 18, 2018 in Jacksonville, Texas. Graveside services with military honors were held Wednesday, March 21 at 1:00pm at Live Oak Cemetery in Brady under the direction of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Survived by son John Wells and wife Karen; daughters Bonnie Blankinship and husband Robert and Nancy Lemke and husband John.

Courtney was born June 17, 1919, in Sulfur Bluff, to William Harrison Wells and Julia Ann (Sanders) Wells. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, under General George Patton in Belgium, France and Germany. He left the army with the rank of Major and re-entered the University of Texas at Austin. He married Jo, the love of his life, on June 4, 1950. in Brady. Courtney graduated with a degree in geology and went to work for Gulf Oil. After several years and many moves in the oilfield, he and Jo decided it was time to settle down in a permanent place. He went to work for the U.S. Department of Labor as a Compliance Officer and retired from that agency many years later. He was a lifelong Methodist and served in almost every capacity in the many churches he and Jo attended, the most recent being St. Phillips United Methodist Church in Houston, where they had lived since 1962. He loved to read, follow his beloved Texas Longhorns, play bridge, listen to music and dance with his wife. Graveside services with military honors for Courtney D. Wells were held Wednesday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at Live Oak Cemetery in Brady with Reverend Mike Cave officiating.
