Ellen "Martha" Stephens Wright
1923 - 2017

Ellen "Martha" Stephens Wright peacefully returned to her Father in Heaven on Monday, June 19, 2017, after 93 loving and memorable years with her adoring family. Her quick wit and unfailing memory were a blessing and a joy to all who loved her.

She came to this earth on July 30, 1923, to Arthur Myrthyn and Hortense Lowe Stephens. She married the love of her life, William Ray Wright, on November 12, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. After Ray’s passing in 1981, Martha chose not to remarry and was a widow for 37 years. They had six children, 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Martha’s heart was consistently centered on family, whom she loved very much. She made everyone around her feel accepted and special. She loved telling stories from her past and reminiscing about the days of her youth. She was always quick to laugh which often lifted those around her.

Martha was born and raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in many callings, including as a temple worker in the Provo Utah Temple.

Martha served as a Pink Lady in the Provo hospital. She loved bowling, playing cards, scrapbooking, making ceramic dolls, people-watching, and drinking Diet Coke. She had the opportunity to travel with her friends and sister to many states and several countries; including Hawaii, England, Israel and Egypt.

Martha enjoyed staying at the family cabin in Current Creek, where she spent many summers enjoying the outdoors and fixing the place up. She loved watching the Johnny Carson Show, Utah Jazz games and her favorite, The Price is Right. One of her life highlights was attending the show in person and getting a kiss from Bob Barker after the show!

She is survived by her children: Jeannie Gurney (Dayle), Lehi, UT; Doug Wright (Peggy), Ferron, UT; Robin Frank (Tom), Draper, UT; Kelly Wright (Diana), Provo, UT; Richie Wright (Laurie), Salem, UT.

She has returned to be with her husband: Ray; son, Stephen Ray Wright; parents; grandsons: Shane and KC Wright; daughter-in-law, Linda Wright; and sister, Jean Christensen.

Special thanks to our Angel, Gisela Menssen, for the tender, loving care, and friendship she shared with our mother during the past year.
