Larry Brown Stowers, 76, of Springfield, died on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Larry was born June 17, 1941 in Springfield, the son of Frank L. and Lois Brown Stowers. He married Marianne Williams on August 15, 1964 in Jacksonville.

Larry graduated from Springfield High School in 1959 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois College in Jacksonville, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Literary Society. He also studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Captain. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer for CIPS and then worked for CWLP until his retirement in 2008. Larry was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as an Elder, Moderator, and Church Historian, played handbells, and taught VBS. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts since the age of eight, the Order of the Arrow, completed Wood Badge training, and was awarded the Silver Beaver. He was a COPE course trainer and Vice President of the Abraham Lincoln Council in charge of adult training for the Boy Scouts of America, and served as Scoutmaster. Larry enjoyed photography all of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Emma Bramel Stowers; and brother, Stanley Stowers.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Stowers of Springfield; sons, Steve (fiancée, Jodene Ruiz de Chavez) of Lincoln, Phil (wife, Jill) of Bolingbrook, Andy of Lawrence, KS, and Tim “Buford” (wife, Jenna) of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Emma, Rachel, Isaac, Chun Le, Azrael, Cooper, and Brody; sister-in-law, Joyce Stowers of Springfield; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at First Christian Church, Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at First Christian Church with Rev. Rick Irwin officiating.

Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
