Born in Revere, Mass., Mr. Stowers was the son of George Louis and Jennie Bradeen Stowers.
He was preceded in death by his first wife
Lois, in 1958. He married Emma Branel Babbs in 1962. Mr. Stowers was employed for 41 years as a design engineer by Central Illinois Public Service Co.
Surviving are his wife, Emma; two sons, Stanley and Larry Stowers, both of Springfield; one brother, Les of Springfield; one stepdaughter, Norma Patterson of Springfield; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
