Born in Smith, Co., MS, Papa became a preacher at an early age and was pastor of Howell Missionary Baptist Church in the early 1920's, I believe. He and his wife, Lela Bell Dupree Herring are buried close to the back of the church, about 3 grave sites from the back fence. Lela Bell had a twin brother--they were born 25 July 1887. Papa and Mama had 7 girls and 3 boys (two girls died early--1 age 7, and one age 18 months). There are 3 girls left--Irene-she will be 97, Oct 9, 2011, Geneva (my mother who lives with me)she will be 86 July 14, 2011, and the baby-Helen-she will be 82 Aug 26, 2011. My mother, husband and I live on Gallops Creek Drive in Wilmer. It's off Lott Road just before you get to J. E. Turner School. Papa was also Pastor of Mt Pisgah, in Greene CO, Macedonia in George CO., and Orchard Baptist Church on Overlook Road in Mobile, AL. He was Pastor of other churches, also, but I was too young to remember them and my mother is not able to talk because of a stroke. I have pictures of Papa and Mama a year after they married, one of Papa about 35 and one of him and Mama fairly old. I would be glad to make a copy for you if you are interested.
