Four Oaks – Charles Herbert Alford, age 86, died Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2017, in the SECU Hospice House. Born June 9, 1931 in Franklin County to the late Herbert and Ruth Elizabeth Freeman Alford, he was the widower of Hilda Woodard Alford, who died April 14, 2004 and was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Earle Douglas. Charles was a retired heavy equipment operator, a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017 with Mr. Luby C. Tyner, Jr. officiating, in the Princeton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.

Surviving are his son, Chuck Alford and wife Toni of Four Oaks; daughter, Becky Brown and husband James of Bear Creek; step-son, Bruce Parrish and wife Ann of Pine Level; step-daughter, Charlotte Davis and husband Irwin of Smithfield; sisters, Emily Prim of Tucson, AZ and Levithan Steed and husband Leonard of Spotsylvania, VA; five grandchildren, Jesse Brown and wife Shannon of Broadway, Danielle Richardson and husband Ethan of Angier, Cierra Parks and husband Blake of Benson, Brandon Parrish and wife Amanda of Pine Level and Whitney Wentz and husband Josh of Pine Level and three great grandchildren, Colon Brown, Dawson Richardson and Blakely Ann Parks.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the SECU Hospice House, P. O. Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
