Leo “David” Bennett, 77, a 39 year resident of Hotchkiss Road, Randolph, formerly of Schuyler Street, Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing in Jamestown, with his family by his side.
He was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Union City, Pa., the son of the late Leo David and Mildred (Clark) Bennett Sr.
Dave was a 1958 graduate of Union City High School. He had worked prior to his retirement for Bush Industries in Little Valley, N.Y., and earlier worked for the former Aolean Corporation in Randolph, N.Y.
He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jamestown and was a former member of the First Baptist Church and Faith Bible Chapel, both in Randolph, N.Y.
Dave had for many years bowled in leagues at the former Twi-Lite Lanes in Randolph and played many sports in high school. He was a talented furniture builder and wood working artist, enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice A. (Robinson) Bennett, whom he married Oct. 17, 1959, in Union City, Pa.;, two sons: Timothy (Deborah) Bennett of Rochester, N.Y. and James (Joy) Bennett of Harlingen, Texas; two daughters: Rachel (Ausavio) Perez of Painsville, Ohio, and Elizabeth (Joel) Odach of Jamestown; 15 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and three sisters: Wilma Jones of Centerville, Pa., Lucille Rogers of Union City, Pa., and Violet (Lynn) Mays of Washington state.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bennett on Nov. 29, 1995; and an infant sister, Laura Lee Bennett.
The family will receive family and friends from 3:30-5 p.m., on Sunday (June 18, 2017) at the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 40 Hallock St., Jamestown, from where serves will follow at 5 p.m. The Rev. Mark Hinman, pastor and Rev. Gerald Haglund, Heritage Ministries, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Union City, Pa.
Arrangements are entrusted to the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, Randolph.
