Mrs. Eure was born in the Severn community of Northampton County on March 8, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Charlie and Viola Morgan Barnes. A Registered Nurse, she practiced in Franklin, VA prior to marrying her husband, the late Carrol Brinkley “Dick” Eure. For many years, she and Dick owned and operated a group of community grocery stores in Lasker, Severn, Pendleton, and Roduco. While living in Gates County, they became members of Eure Baptist Church, and later after her move to Ahoskie, for several years she attended Winton Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her seven brothers, Roy, Thomas, Charlie, Lawrence, Robert Earl, Henry, and James Barnes.
Surviving are three sons, Julian Mills Eure and wife Robyn of Elizabeth City, James Eure and wife Elayne of Winton, and Thomas Eure and wife Lynn of Morganton; seven grandchildren, Nicole Miller and husband Travis, and Adison, Cole, Jonathan, Sarah, Andrew, and Nathaniel Eure; and two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Harry Miller.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Winton Baptist Church and will be conducted by Dr. Wayne Proctor and the Rev. Derik Davis. Immediately following the service the family will greet friends in the Winton church social hall, and burial will be later that evening in the Eure Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends may join the family in Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at James and Elayne’s home, 128 Folley Branch Road in Winton.
