SEVERN — Henry Hodge Barnes Sr., 81, of Severn, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Hampton Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson.
Barnes was born April 19, 1929, in Northampton County, the son of the late Charlie Clyde Barnes and Viola Keith Morgan Barnes. He was also a member of the Severn Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was also an avid Duke Blue Devils basketball fan for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years Clarine Martin Barnes, of Severn; one sister Maude Eure, of Ahoskie; two sons Henry Hodge Barnes Jr., of Severn, and Glen Barnes, and wife Melissa of, Galatia; two daughters Debbie Cannon, and husband Sam, of Margarettsville, and Mary Lynn Barnes, of Severn; and two grandchildren Mindy and Jeffrey Cannon, of Margarettsville.
Graveside Services will be held, Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Severn Cemetery in Severn, with the Rev. Brent Hobbs officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, from 7-8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Severn Baptist Church and Conway — Severn Rescue Squad.
