Ursula Bathke Dossing passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 surrounded by beloved friends and family.

Ursula was born on December 6, 1923 to Karl and Maria Bathke in Jonsdorf, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sisters: Eric, Ermgard and Erica.

She is survived by her niece, Doris; nephew, Kurtchen; and great-nephew, Karsten; great-niece, Gudrun; and her daughter, Vanessa. Even though she did not have any children of her own, her legacy will live on through her adopted children and grandchildren.

During World War II Ursula was separated from her family. She attended school in cosmetology to support herself. This gave her the needed contacts to find a host family in Utah, for safe passage to the United States from Berlin.

After settling in Utah, she found a job working at a pickle factory, where she learned most of her English, and studied to become a U.S. citizen. Once she gained her citizenship Ursula became a licensed cosmetologist. In 1955, Ursula opened her own business on Kaysville's main street called Ursula's Hair Fashion.

Shortly thereafter she met the love of her life, Henry Dossing. Henry emigrated from Germany to the United States like Ursula shortly after the war. He proposed to her after she returned from a visit to see her family in Germany. The couple was married in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 14, 1958. They built many homes together, brick by brick, when they finally settled in Kaysville. Eventually, Ursula moved her salon into her home.

Henry and Ursula traveled to many countries together, and were also avid campers and fishermen. Ursula often bested Henry, managing to catch the only fish in the lake while other ended their trip empty handed. Ursula lost her sweetheart of 25 years on March 7, 1983.

Shortly thereafter, she was adopted by Brent and Kim Christenson. Ursula was a mother to them and eventually grandma to Kent and Nicole. Later she adopted another grandson, when Nicole married Andy Fitch in February 2012. She enjoyed her last few years in one of her most prized roles as great-grandma to Atticus Bird Fitch.

Ursula loved everyone, especially her family and many friends. She was "Omi" to many, through her love, genuine concern and care. She touched lives of all who knew her through her smile, spirited personality and loving heart. Until we meet again Omi, we love you.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
