John W. Millsaps, Glenn Pioneer, Succumbs at 69

John W. Millsaps, Glenn county pioneer*, died this afternoon at his home following a long illness. Millsaps a native of Glenn county, went to Mendocino county as a youth after engaging in stock buying, returned to Stonyford in 1898 to enter the mercantile firm of Burrows & Millsaps, later disposing of his interests. Millsaps was also an active republican, and was a delegate to several county conventions. He also acted as constable at Stonyford for two years.
A native of Chrome, Millsaps had resided here for the past 12 years. Besides his widow he leaves three children. Aura "Pete" Millsaps of Willows, Mrs. Lena Harlan of Williams and Mrs. Earl Asdell of Orland.
Funeral services will be held at the Millsaps cemetery near Chrome Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. H. S. Saxby of Willows.

John W. Millsaps Chrome Pioneer, Died Last Friday

John W. Milsaps died in his home in Willows last Friday afternoon following a long illness. Funeral services were held last Sunday at the Millsap cemetery, at Chrome, Rev. H. S. Saxby, pastor of the Willows Christian church, officiating.
The deceased was born at Chrome 69 years ago and grew to young manhood there. Raised on a stock ranch he naturally engaged in that business and for some years employed himself as a stock buyer making Glenn and Mendocino counties his field of operations. Thirty-five years ago he engaged in the mercantile business at Stonyford, forming a partnership in the firm of Burrows and Millsaps. Mr. Millsaps later retired from the mercantile business selling out to Burrows. Some 12 years ago he gave up active management of his ranch and has since made his home in Willows.
The deceased leaves three children Mrs. Earl Asdell of Oakland; Aura A. Millsaps of Willows and Mrs. Lena Harlan of Williams. – Transcribed by E.

John Wesley Millsaps married Eleanor Eloise Burrows in 1884 in Nevada. The 1900 U.S. Federal Census enumerated them as living in Stonyford, Colusa Co., CA. Their son Aura is buried in Willows, CA, daughter Hattie in Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
