MARIETTA, Ga. — Mr. Mike Oakes, 58, of Marietta, Ga. passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008.

Born in Williamsport, Pa., the son of Bettie Oakes and the late Charles Oakes, he was an officer in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force.

Mr. Oakes is survived by his wife, Henri Oakes, daughter of Heather Hawks, son-in-law Tim Hawks and mother Bettie Oakes.

Mr. Oakes recently retired after more than 30 years as a Federal Investigator with the Department of Defense, Defense Investigative Service. In 1995, Mr. Oakes spent five weeks in Oklahoma City serving as team leader for an investigative recovery team after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

Mr. Oakes was very active with the Cobb County Special Olympics serving the past several years as the head coach of the Cobb County power lifting team.

Mr. Oakes received his B.A. from Susquehanna University and his M.A. from Hollins University in Hollins, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Cobb County Special Olympics at 555 Nickajack Rd., SE, Mableton, Ga. 30126.

Services will be conducted at noon Saturday, April 5, in Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.
