Douglas William Owens, age 55 of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Doug was born on November 3, 1961, the son of William and Marlene (Swanson) Owens. He graduated from Centerville High School. He attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, earning his Associate's Degree in Robotics.

Doug worked at Cargill in Eddyville as an Industrial Programmer for twenty years. He then went to work at TDS in Waverly, Iowa. Currently, he worked at RS Stover of Marshalltown, in Eddyville, as an Industrial Programmer.

He was united in marriage to Denise Fisher on December 21, 2013 in Centerville, Iowa. Together, they bought The Spur in Centerville in 2015, and have currently been remodeling it.

Doug enjoyed going to Las Vegas, fishing, hunting, watching NASCAR, and cooking. Most of all, he loved being around his family.

Doug is survived by his wife, Denise Owens of Centerville; his mother, Marlene Owens of Centerville; his children, Jonathon (Heather) Owens of Mystic, Holly (Tanner) McClure of Centerville, and Garett (Hanna) Owens of Centerville; stepchildren, Jonathan (Erica) Matkovich of Centerville and Michael Matkovich of Centerville; his grandchildren, Faith Owens of Mystic, and Elijah McClure of Centerville; a brother, John Thomas (Missy) Owens of Waterloo; a nephew, Wil Owens of Waterloo; as well as a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Owens.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 4-7PM Friday, June 16, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. A public gathering in Doug's honor will take place at The Spur following the service. Memorials have been established to the American Heart Association, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
