Eula had a sunny disposition that attracted all people she met to her. She was a talented and creative person who was able to sew tailored suits and clothing for her family and later in life discovered that she was a talented painter of landscapes, etc., winning local and state Art Show awards. She was just a fun person to be around!Eula Jones Bowman COLUMBIA - Eula Jones Bowman, 84, of Columbia, SC, died April 1, 2015, in Palmetto Health Baptist. Eula was born in Ortis, KY, July 28, 1930, the first daughter of George and Lida Jones. She graduated from Dixon High School in Webster County, KY. She worked as a nurse at the Boehne TB Hospital and as a secretary at International Steel before marrying Robert "Bob" Bowman on February 1, 1953. Eula spent the next years of her life as an Air Force wife and mother raising her four children and experiencing the world as an Air Force family. As she never knew a stranger, everywhere she lived she made numerous friends who remained a dear part of her life. She and her family settled in Columbia in 1974. Among her volunteer work, she enjoyed calling and visiting shut-ins. She also enriched the lives of the many children for whom she babysat over the years. Her passion was painting, which led her to become an active member of the Log Cabin Art Guild. She won numerous ribbons and recognitions for her artwork. Eula is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Bowman Blackwell and Cynthia Bowman, both of Columbia, and a son, Robert Bowman Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and son, Ronald. Eula was the loving and awesome "Ganny" to four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Jennifer Blackwell Simmons and husband, Jesse, and their children, Jeffrey, Jenna, Julie and Jacob; Lauren Bowman Snead and husband, Terry; and Ryan and Justin Castro. She was also the loving sister of eight brothers and sisters, the late Kenneth Jones and wife, Jean, Emerson Jones and wife, Pat, Peggy Winterman (late husband, Joe), Gladys Estes and husband, John, B.K. Jones and wife, Carolyn, Linda Jones Vincent, Gary Jones and wife, Anita, and Jeanie Shelton and husband, Don. Eula was also the beloved and "favorite aunt" of seventeen nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, April 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Windsor United Methodist Church, 9500 Windsor Lake Blvd., Columbia, SC 29223. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Lebanon Cemetery Fund, Inc., c/o Linda Vincent, P.O. Box 378, Robards, KY 42452. Eula will be interred near her parents in the historic Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Kentucky.
