Myrtle Cannon Joyner, wife of James Joyner, died Wednesday at Wake Med Hospital.

The family is receiving friends at home of Pam King Rouse, 245 N. Duplin School Road, Calypso.

CALYPSO -- Myrtle Cannon Joyner, 89, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Wake Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with Dr. Gregory A. Day officiating.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Pam King Rouse, 245 N. Duplin School Road, Calypso.

Mrs. Joyner, a longtime member of Calypso Baptist Church, will be best remembered for having operated Cannon's Barbecue Café on Center Street in Mount Olive for decades, a business founded by her late father.

She is survived by her husband, James Joyner of the home; an extended family to include a daughter, Pam King Rouse of Mount Olive; a grandson, Joyner King of Mount Olive; two granddaughters, Somer K. Tyndall of Hampstead and Erin K. Brown of Mount Olive; six sisters, Margaret C. Daughtry of Fayetteville, formerly of Faison, Melba C. Parker of Albertson, Mary Frances C. Swaney of Lake Anna, Mich., Rita C. Best of Goldsboro, Martha C. Butts of Greenville and Mable C. Higgins of Spring Lake; a sister-in-law, Betty J. Hollingsworth and husband, Ralph, of Mount Olive; a special friend, Deborah G. Waters of Cary; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family members preceding her in death include her parents, Joe Wade and Zadia Cox Cannon; a sister, Mildred C. Midgett; and two brothers, Orris Cannon and McDonald Cannon.
