A farmer with blue eyes and dark hair, he attended V.M.I. for a short time before joining the 12th Regiment of Virginia Cavalry in 1862. He was captured and held at Camp Chase. He was released in Mississippi, recaptured and returned to Camp Chase. He was listed as a "guerilla, bushwhacker, and horse thief." He was again released from prison in June of 1865. After the war he was a farmer and salesmen. He was killed in a railroad accident.
