MISS IRENE McMILLAN
Irene McMillan was born in Elroy, and lived here until she had completed her high school course.
After graduating from high school she taught two years in the rural schools of the County and one year at Mauston. She then completed the Normal School Course at La Crosse State Teachers College and taught for a number of years, holding positions in Madison, Richland Center, and in the County Normal at Reedsburg.
She then attended the University at Madison from which she got her B. A. degree in 1924.
She then went to Wichita, Kansas, where she spent eight years as supervisor of Elementary Grades in the city schools.
During the years she was in Wichita she attended summer schools and had one-half year’s absence to complete her work for her Master’s degree which she received after the summer school of 1930.
She taught a summer session at Atlanta, Ga., in 1931. After the next year’s work at Wichita she decided to rest for a year and spent the past summer visiting her sisters and other friends in and near her childhood home.
Miss McMillan was visiting with friends in Madison when she died very suddenly from heart trouble on Sunday afternoon, October 30.
Christian Science funeral services were held at the Frauchie Funeral Home in Madison on Tuesday and burial was made in the Evergreen Cemetery beside her mother and father.
Miss McMillan leaves to mourn her loss, five sisters, Mrs. George Davis and Mrs. O. F. Miller of Elroy, Mrs. F. H. Leasure of Chicago, Miss Mattie McMillan of Baraboo, and Mrs. B. L. Eller of Janesville; one brother, L. A. McMillan of St. Paul, and a large number of friends in the different places where she had attended and taught school.
