Nee Lois Moore, this woman is key to linking together the Williamstown and Putney, Vermont Moore and Pool families with the Cincinnati branches spelling the surname both Pool and Poole.

Back in 2006, it was Gideon Moore descendant and helpful author, Doris Cline Ward of Ashville, NC, who thankfully published and sold to me her detailed Moore research on a compact disk. It may be entitled Eunity Moore Fairbanks (Lois's niece and daughter of her brother, Gideon Moore) and also addresses an area of Elma Twp, Erie Co, NY, "Before Billington Heights". Doris confirmed that yes Lois Moore Pool is properly placed as Captain Abijah Moore, RWS daughter.

According to David, the kind librarian at Pub Lib of Cincinnati, PLCHC, it is the Clark Co OH Hist Society which possesses the early 1823-1839 Springfield, OH newspaper, Ohio Pioneers; no microfilm version available. Natalie at Clark Co Hist Soc says that this paper has not been digitized and exists only as a bound hard copy. I have ordered a copy of Lois Moore Pool's obituary, as kindly noted by findagraver, Steward, as being published on 20 Dec 1839 in this early newspaper. Thank you Steward! [Regretfully, it appears that Steward's obit has been removed from findagrave for reasons unknown...]

It is the VR of Bolton, Mass. which records the birth of Lois Moor, without the e (in version on ancestry.com). This is the source for her date of birth posted here of 12 Mar 1766 naming parents Vince [sic, Eunice] and Abijah (on the ancestry.com version of Mass, Towns and Vital Records, 1620-1988 database online). The original VR mss was scanned and is online, which seems to show 1766.

On one of Essen J. Pool's family worksheets, thankfully preserved in the Clark Co Hist Soc, OH, in Mary Skardon Collection, E.J. writes: "Lois (Moore) Pool came from the hardest nosed stock in Mass-NH-VT. Her pappy, Capt Abijah, his bro in law Capt John Kathan and many brothers of both - were first settlers and famous Indian Fighters on the Connecticut River between NH and VT way back in 1737. Capt Kathan and 2 Moore nephews massacred at seige of Ft Dummerston in Battleboro VT in 1758. Lois was the genuine "Pioneer Woman"- This comment I dug out of files in NEHG Society Boston years ago. Too bad someone didn't record her life." Essen also tells us she was the 8th child of Capt Abijah Moore of Putney VT.[bio by DBardes, findagraver]
