Davenport -- Services for Robert N. Pfanenstiel, a lifelong resident of the Quad-Cities, will be 10 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church, Assumption High School or Alleman High School.


Mr. Pfanenstiel died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport, after a brief illness. Robert N. Pfanenstiel was born June 6, 1912, to Joseph and Annie (Quint) Pfanenstiel in Hayes, Kan.


He retired July 30, 1976, after working as a machinist for many years at the John Deere Moline Works. After his retirement, he was a tour guide at the John Deere Davenport Works.


He married Josephine Ivanowski on Nov. 25, 1937, in Moline. She preceded him in death March 15, 1998.


He was a member of Holy Family Church, where he was an usher and had sung in the Resurrection Choir. He was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island, where he served as choir director. He also was a member of the Holy Name Society, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus 532, Davenport, the UAW and Alleman Booster Club. Robert had been involved as a volunteer and had worked the bingo programs at the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Church. He also was a volunteer for the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Pallbearer Club and was a longtime volunteer for the Bix 7 road race.


He also had coached baseball for 19 years in the Babe Ruth League in Rock Island. Bob was very dedicated to his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No matter what the occasion, he loved the time spent together as family.


Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Evan Stoughton, JoAnne and Dennis Ash and Betty Pfanenstiel, all of Davenport, Rita and Kurt Gundacker, Rosemont, Minn., Rose Anne and Gary McCarter, Kent, Wash., and Judy and Patrick Ashe, Naperville, Ill.; sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob and Judy Pfanenstiel, Shorewood, Ill., and Bill Pfanenstiel and his fiance, Laura Olsen, Naperville; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan R. Millage, Oxnard, Calif.


In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Stoughton, four sisters and a brother. May they rest in peace.
