James A. Chance, 87, of Sabina, died late morning on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Autumn Years Nursing Center.

He was born May 14, 1930, in Pittsburgh, the son of Albert and Louise Strong Chance.

He was preceded in death on Sept. 12, 2011 by his wife, Erma Lee Showen Chance, whom he married June 2, 1951.

A 1948 graduate of Sabina High School, Jim was a retired farmer and substitute rural route mail carrier for Sabina.

A longtime faithful member of Sabina Church of Christ, he was also a former board member of the Sabina Public Library.

Jim was the last surviving member of the 1947 Sabina High School basketball team; their team was the last Sabina team to win the Clinton County Basketball Tournament. He was a great supporter and follower of anything and everything that his grandchildren were involved in.

Jim is survived by two sons, all of Sabina.

Also left to cherish his memory are five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister in-law; and brother-in-law.

In addition to his wife, he is also preceded by his brother, Herb Chance; and sister in-law, Danea Showen.

Jim's family would also like to extend a special thank-you to his caregiver and friend, Rosie Grimsley.

A long-time blood donor, Jim was very proud of the fact that he had donated his body to the Wright State School of Medicine for anatomical study.

There will be a celebration of his life visitation on Tuesday, June 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina.

A graveside committal service will be held at the Sabina Cemetery at the family's convenience.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Sabina Church of Christ.
