Thomas Edison Short, 84, of Asheboro, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church, Asheboro with Rev. Rick McCranie, Bishop Harold Williams and Rev. Lee Ellis officiating.

Born in Briar Creek, WV on September 30, 1932, Mr. Short was the son of the late Robert Lee Short and Lizzie Stone Short. He was retired from Ashland Oil Company in Brenton, WV. Mr. Short was a long time member of Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees. He enjoyed many senior activities, including bingo and the Young at Heart at West Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Short also loved to watch Westerns, especially John Wayne, Roy Rogers and Bonanza. He was a great father and grandfather, who was loved by everyone.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Short was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Jackson Short; second wife, Betty Harper Short; daughter, Tamara Short; grandson, Nicholas Wright; and brothers, James Short and Robert Short.

Surviving are his daughters, Drema Wright (Lonnie) of Newhall, WV, Deborah Tortelli (John) of Albuquerque, NM, Teresa McGraw of Beckley, WV, Susan Bailey (Alvie) of Glenwood, WV, Rebecca Daniels (Jobie) of the home; son, Timothy Short of Raleigh; stepdaughter, Rosanna Diggs (James Baldwin) of Asheboro; sisters, Lola Hook (William) of Salem, OR, Polly Merritt of Greenville, SC, Linda Sue Phillips of Beckley, WV; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
