Helen M.Kush, 88, of the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, formerly of South Warren Street, passed away at 5:00 p.m.Tuesday, April 25, 2006, in the care facility. Helen was born on October 28, 1917, in South Bend, IN, to Egnatius (Ignatius)and Mary (Nowak) Pajakowski. She and her husband owned and operated Shires Tavern for 30 years. She then worked as the kitchen supervisor and cook for Cardinal Nursing Home for 10 years.
In 1937, she married Stanley “Shires”Kush, who preceded her in death on September 12, 1972. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Barbara Kush, at age 9, on August 17, 1951; a son, Arthur J.Kush, on December 12, 1998; one sister, Eleanor Jackowiak; and by three brothers, Gene, Casey and Ollie Pajakowski.
Surviving are three sisters, Alice Pajakowski of South Bend, IN, Clementine Suth of South Bend, IN, and Esther Meers of Anaheim, CA; and by many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.
Helen was a member of St. Adalbert Parish and Harvest House. She was a former member of the West Side Democratic Club.
