Preston H. Bowman was born in Lafayette Co.,Mo .the son of John & Elizabeth Bowman. Died in Spring Hill,Benton Co.,Oregon. Married America Allphin, Oct 10,1850, Linn Co,Oregon Terr., theirs was the first marriage in Linn Co. They were the parents of 7 children:Elizabeth,Nathaniel H.,Nancy,Mary,William H.,Maria L. and John A. He was brother of Nancy,Mary,Edith,Glaphine,Sarah,William and Nathaniel. In April 1847, along with his parents and 4 siblings and others ,they crossed the plains starting from Amazonia ,Mo (north of St. Joseph). In the wagon train was America Allphin with her family, who would become his wife. They arrived in the Willamette Valley in Sept 1847 by way of the Barlow Pass. Preston & America settled a claim in Polk Co April 30,1852 (DLC # 4467)
