Alan was a boy scout and later earned the Eagle Scout badge. He spent most of his career working on school buses as a diesel mechanic for the Mead School District.
He moved to Tekoa in 1985 and established what he call the "Arnold Homestead."
He enjoyed military history, reading and writing poetry, doing various research and writing. He also had a vast and diverse collection of films ranging from blockbuster hits to independent documentaries. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and particularly enjoyed spending as much time as he could on the Snake River.
