Robert Stephen Currier, (aka "Birdie Bob"), 73 years old, died peacefully in his devoted wife’s arms after losing his fight against esophageal cancer Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2017. He was born January 24, 1944, in Kewanee, IL and had been a resident of Naperville for the past 47 years.

Bob is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 50 years, his cherished daughter, Kelly, and his three adorable granddaughters, Samantha, Emma, and Meghan. Surviving also are brothers, John (Diane) and Doug (Annette) and sister Karen Stickle. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Currier.

Bob studied at Blackhawk College and Western Illinois University and was a First Lieutenant in the Illinois Army National Guard for 8 years. He worked for Caterpillar as an inspector for over thirty years. After retirement, Bob found the love of his work life in golf. He worked for most of the local golf shops in the area and most recently was employed in the ProShop at Whitetail Ridge in Yorkville and at golf shows for Tour Edge Golf.

Bob was a hard-working member of the Evening Kiwanis for 23 years. He was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was a longtime Eucharistic Minister captain and a member of the Voices of Faith choir for the past 12 years.

Bob loved golfing, gardening, woodworking, the choir, and his family. He enjoyed life and lived it fully, exuding love, joy, character, and a special sparkle to all. Bob was truly a legacy of love.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held Monday, June 5, 2017, 4:00-8:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd, Naperville, IL 60563, (630) 355-8980.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 6, 11:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Joel Fortier officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately, at the church, after the funeral mass.

Family and friends will meet Tuesday, 3:30 PM at Risen Lord Cemetery, 1501 Simons Rd., Oswego, IL 60543 Oswego, IL, (630) 554-7590 for committal services.
