Dr. William Henry Howard, second son of Thomas Calthorpe (1787-1834) and Catherine Elizabeth Pope Howard (1793-1849), was born May 14, 1811, in Richmond, Va. He married in 1837 a cousin in Lynchburg, Va., Sarah Catherine DuVal (1818-66), daughter of Maj. William DuVal (1748-1842) and his second wife, Susan Browne Christian. Their ten children were Lt. Thomas Calthorpe, II (1838-65); Lt. William Duval (1840-62) who was killed at the second battle of Manassas; Judge Charles Henry (1842-77); Isaac Adams (1844-63) who was in Company B, 5th Texas Rangers, and was killed at the battle of Gettysburg; Catherine Elizabeth (1845-1924); Nathaniel Pope (1848-67) who fought in the civil war and died of malaria contracted during the war; Philip Francis (1850-1910); Sarah Frances (1851-1910) who married George Cal; Susan Brown (1852-1936); and Nellie Howard (1855-1929).

Lt. Thomas Calthorpe Howard II (CSA)(1838-65) married in 1862, a cousin, Florida G. Duval (1826-1909-), youngest daughter of Governor William Pope (1784-1854) and Nancy Hynes DuVal (c1788-1841). They had no children and lived in Austin, Tx. Lt. Howard was a great grandson of Nathaniel Pope V, and his mother was a half sister of Governor Duval. He served in the Civil War and was a lieutenant on the staff of Brigadier General William Steele (CSA) who was married to Ann E. Duval (1828-77), daughter of General John Pope Duval (1790-1854).

Judge Charles Henry Howard (1842-77) lived in El Paso, Tx. He was a captain in the 8th Texas Cavalry during the Civil War and was killed by a Mexican firing squad in 1877. He married in 1875, Mary Louise Zimpleman (1856-77), daughter of George Barnhard Zimpleman, but left no issue.

Susan Brown Howard (1852-1936) married Judge William Lewis Davidson (1845-1921), son of Asbury and Mary Fly Davidson, of Grenada, Ms. They last lived in Austin, Tx. He served in the 32nd Texas Cavalry (CSA), was an assistant attorney general of Texas, 1887-91, and served on the Texas Court of Civil Appeals, 1891-1920. Their eight children were Nellie Duval (1872-1943) who married William King Clement (1868-1907); Katherine Howard (1873-1940); twins William Howard (1877-1943) and Lewis Ashbury (1877-86); attorney Thomas Pope (1881-1938) who married Aileen Cotton (1885-1956); attorney Frank Ross (1887-1927); Duval A. (1892-1974); and Susan Davidson (1896-1987). Katherine Howard Davidson (1873-1940) married George W. Graves (1872-1963), and lived in Houston. Their daughters were Katherine (1898-1944) and Mary Sue Graves (c1901-). William Howard Davidson (1877-1943) married Helen J. Rosewood (1877-1964), daughter of Liza Rosewood (c1847-) and lived in Beaumont, Tx. Five children were Jamie (c1896-) who married a Gambrell and had a daughter Helen D. Gambrell (1916-91) who married a Brooke; William L. (1898-1963); Nettie M. (c1903-); Thomas R. (1908-90); and Lee Young Davidson (1918-60) who married Doris Yerkes (1918-98), and had Lindsey Davidson. William L. Davidson (1898-1963) married Helen Deviller (1904-77) and lived in Beaumont, Tx. Two children were William R. (c1926-) and Doris V. Davidson (c1929-). Nettie "Mattie" M. Davidson (c1903-) married a Jones, and a daughter was Nell Jones (c1927-). Duval A. Davidson (1892-1974) married Mary Traylor (1889-1973) and lived in Edna, Tx. Two sons were Duval A., Jr. (1916-2015) and Capt. William Keith Davidson (1920-43) who was in the Army Air Corps and died in WWII.
