Waterville- In the late evening hours of Sunday, May 21, 2017, Lucille E. Morrissette left us, to enjoy her rewards of a life well lived. She was 92 years young. Lucille lived a quiet, reserved and content life, passing her appreciation of the small things, on to her children. She was born in Waterville, Maine on April 14, 1925, the middle daughter to Arthur and Eldora Brillard.
Lucille was educated in both Waterville and Winslow schools and proudly graduated from Winslow High School earning a place in the Honor Society. She worked for Hollingsworth and Whitney after high school and later established and ran the Sacred Heart Credit Union from the basement of her home for many years- The Board of Directors honored her at an annual meeting with a plaque recognizing her for her many years of service and dedication. Later in her career, Lucille worked for Northeast Bank, Bank of Maine and retired from the Bank of America in 1987.
Lucille was married to Carroll R. Morrissette for 66 years. Together they raised a son, Robert, of Scarborough and a daughter Kathleen Desrosiers, of Winslow. For many years Lucille, Carroll and their children were members of Sacred Heart Church Parish in Waterville and after retirement move to Winslow, became members of St. John's Catholic Church.
In retirement, Lucille and Carroll enjoyed many memorable trips, one of which v.as a cross country trip to our Nation's National Parks. She said it was a trip of a lifetime. Together they cruised the Caribbean visiting many of the islands and always enjoyed the great food and entertainment offered daily on the cruises.
Lucille dedicated herself to her children and grandson and was very proud of their accomplishments and families. She enthusiastically assisted both Bob and Kathy with multiple moves over the years and enjoyed every minute of that work well into her late 80's. She taught by example, modeling patience, respect and using plain old common sense. She was a firm believer in letting natural consequences teach the most powerful lessons. She could always get her point across in a quiet manner. She was an exceptional mother and friend to both of us. We are grateful that we had her in our lives as long as we did. She leaves us with heavy hearts and will be sadly missed by her family, extended family and her friends at Sunset Home.
Lucille is survived by her son, Robert Morrissette and his partner Tammy Card, grandson Ryan Morrissette of Grand Junction, Colorado: her daughter Kathleen Desrosiers and husband Rene, their family Scott St. Peter, wife Karen and daughters Gabbie and Sadie; Bobbi Jo and partner Bob Rodrigue and daughter Ellie, all of Waterville. Her one remaining sibling is Gloria Gilbert of Winslow.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll; her parents Arthur and Eldora Brillard, a brother, Eugene Brillard, and sister Beatrice Paradis.
During the past 7 years, Lucille enjoyed being an active resident of Sunset Home of Waterville. In her words, "If you can't be home, it's the next best place to be." Lucille enjoyed the many activities offered, but her favorite times were spent making jigsaw puzzles with her friends. She enjoyed sharing three meals a day with her dining partners, highlighted by yummy desserts, admittedly, her favorite part of the meals.
For many years Lucille was an avid Red Sox fan, seldom missing a game on TV. She knew all the stats for each player and called them by name as she cheered them on. We feel quite confident that she could have managed the team to a winning season.
A special thank you to all of the staff at Sunset Home for making Lucille feel well cared for and cared about. To Gloria, a direct care staff member for our mother for the past 7 years, our family will be forever grateful for the care you gave her and the special bond you shared.
We would also like to thank the Acute Care Rehab Unit at Maine General, both the medical staff and the therapists who worked with Lucille for the exceptional care and attention given to her during such a trying time. To Maine General Hospice Medical Director, Dr. Dohner and the direct care staff on 2 West, we thank you for the respect you showed Lucille and the care you gave her during her final days.
