John Calvin Ware is the son of Thomas Seaton and Jane Caroline Oates Ware. John first married Martha "Mattie" C Dye the daughter of Perry and Ann Dye and they had they had at least twelve children: Lenora, Calvin, William, Lillie Jane, Ada, John Calvin, James Albert, Mattie, Olive Lee, Estell "Essie", Georgia and Cora.

After the death of Mattie in 1898, John remarried to Margaret Ware and they had three children: Minnie, Theodore Roosevelt and Janette Ware.

John enlisted in Co.G 49th North Carolina 49th Infantry - CSA on 13 Aug 1864 and his Muster date is 9 Apr 1865.
