Clarendon: Donald Charles Gaines, Sr. passed away November 11, 2015. He was born in Clarendon, NY on October 10, 1927 to the late Charles and Hilda (Greene) Gaines, where he and his wife have lived for the past 33 years.
Donald was a World War II Veteran, charter member of Clarendon Fire Co., member of the American Legion Jewell Buckman Post 529 and VFW Post 202 in Holley. Donald was a lifelong member of Disciples United Methodist Church, formerly known as Clarendon Methodist Church. He retired from General Electric and Black and Decker in 1987, after having worked there since 1956.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Irving, sister-in-law Annabelle and daughter-in-law Barbara Bruski Gaines.
Donald is survived by his childhood sweetheart Constance Callard Gaines, whom he married 66 years ago on April 23, 1949, his children, Trudy (Chester) Hein, Dorothy Lea (David McElhenny), and Donald C. Jr., his 4 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister; Thelma Quaranta, several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Donald’s family will receive friends Monday November 16th from 10:00-11:00am at Disciples United Methodist Church, 4410 Holley-Byron Rd. Holley, NY 14470 with his Funeral Service to follow at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Holley, NY.
