John Dalton "Big D" Westerburg

You may not know who John Dalton was, but most of central Mississippi knew the man called "Big D." He was fixture in the Pocahontas/Flora area for more than 35 years. He owned Big D's Barbecue in Pocahontas. His barbecue and pies were advertised as"good enough to stop a train" and he had the pictures to prove it. Many of politicians and celebrities stopped by to enjoy his barbecue and have their picture taken with him. Big D was a gentle man that never met a stranger and will be missed by many.

Big D passed away May 23, 2017 at Manhattan Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Jackson MS.

Born January 22, 1939 in Winnsboro, Louisiana.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Vera Westerburg, nephews Shane Marcantel, Chris Marcantel, Dereck Marcantel, and Emery Marcantel, Jr.

He is survived by his Sister Nelda (Emery) Marcantel and niece Shannon (Hillman) Fontenot, of Jennings, LA.

There will be a graveside service 3:00 p.m Saturday May 27, 2017 at the Flora,MS City Cemetery.
