Reported age at time of death was 35 years, so evidently born about 1849. Daughter of John Rogers & Jane Amorette (TOWNS) DAWSON. Married 21 JUN 1870 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to William C. GRAY, Jr.

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: Amorette J. GRAY, born on Wynnton Road [sic - this is probably intended to be the place of death, not of birth], died aged 35 years of T.B. [= tuberculosis]; buried 19 FEB 1884 in Section 1, Lot 130 - Sexton Abraham ODOM; remarks: daughter of John Rogers & Jane Amorette TOWNS DAWSON; wife of Wm. C. GRAY. [Note: Galer's source was the sexton's card file (an index). The original burial entry in the sexton's ledger book shows the name here as Mrs. A. T. (not J.) GRAY. Also shows she was born in Georgia (doesn't specify location) and was buried as a non-resident of Columbus, Georgia (probably resided and died in Wynnton, which was outside the Columbus town limits at that time).]

Per 1850 federal census of Russell's District, Muscogee County, Georgia, Dwelling #115 / Household #117 (all DAWSON): John R. (40 Greene County, Georgia), merchant holding real estate valued at $16, 000; Jane A. (32 Greene County, Georgia) -- children all born in Muscogee County: Henry R. (13), David T. (11), Mary E. (9), John F. (7), and Amoritt (2); plus Miss A. SANKEY (14 Alabama).

This grave is probably not identifiably marked.

Born 1839 Columbus, GA; Died Union Springs, AL; Buried Oak Hill Cemetery [I presume this is supposed to be a brother of Amorette. earthellen also reports that Amorette's middile initial is not "J." but "T." and stands for the name Towns. - jml]
