KINGSPORT - Kenneth Blake Stapleton, age 78, originally from Hawkins County, entered into his eternal rest on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital with his wife of 33 years by his side.

He was a member of the Army Reserve, 844th Engineering, in Kingsport, Tennessee, proudly serving his state and country over 20 years, before retiring as a 1st Sergeant.

In his youth he worked at the Kingsport Press, later spending the majority of his career at Mason Dixon Trucking in Kingsport, Tennessee. His proudest moments were spent watching his children and step-children participate in various school activities. His pride continued as he watched his family pursue their education and careers in various fields after their secondary education.

The time following his retirement from Tidewater Transit were his happiest as he got to share his love of farming with his grandchildren including working in hay, working with cattle, fishing, enjoying the great outdoors and having cookouts on his farm in Chuckey. His most memorable days included time spent on his farm with his young grandchildren walking alongside him.

Ken was a member of Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Kingsport Highway, Chuckey, Tennessee, until he started losing the battle with dementia.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Birdie Manis Stapleton; and his siblings, Robert Stapleton, Jr., Eugene Stapleton, Mae Belle Livesay, Opal Livesay, Elmer Stapleton, Doris Livesay and Cecil Fleenor.

Ken is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy (Neff) Stapleton of Kingsport, Tennessee; Wilma Jean Stapleton, mother of his children, North Augusta, South Carolina; children, Karen Hensley, Rhonda and Denny Vanover of North Augusta, South Carolina, Mark Stapleton and Julianne Misenheimer of Morristown, Tennessee, Cindy Hodge Anderson and Brian Anderson of Weaverville, North Carolina, and Danny and Tammy Hodge of Kingsport, Tennessee. Ken had 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

There will be a military graveside service Friday, May 26, 2017 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Rogersville, Tennessee. His grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers including Justin Hensley, Jason Hensley, Zane Vanover, Gabe Stapleton, Brett Anderson, Jacob Anderson, and Jackson Hodge.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Kingsport located at 2020 Meadowview Parkway #110, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660.
