Howard William Bauhs was born March 3, 1925, in Madison, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Esser) Bauhs. He attended grade school at St. James in Madison and high school at Madison West. Upon graduation from high school, he went on to pharmacy school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he graduated with a BS in pharmacy in 1948. Howard completed his pharmacy career working at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage for 22 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. Howard was a devoted family man having six children with June before her sudden death in 1976 after 21-plus years of marriage. After raising the children and becoming an “empty-nester,” he met Marjorie Ehrenberger and they were married Nov. 13, 1993. Howard’s life was rich and full — centered on family, immersed in faith and shared with friends.

Howard is survived by his wife, Marjorie Ehrenberger Bauhs, Sunrise, Florida; his sister, Eleanor Walker, Madison; his and June’s five children, Lynn A. (Rick) Martin, Portage, James W. (Margene) Bauhs, Chaska, Minnesota, John E. (Kim) Bauhs, Germantown, Maryland, Susan M. (Chris) Jensen, Merrimac, and Brian J. (Chris Bannon) Bauhs, New York, New York; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Nelson, Daniel (Amy) Martin, Jillian (Melroy) Atkins, Cameron (Erica) Bauhs, Ryan Jensen and Rachel Jensen; three great-grandchildren, Mary June Nelson, Rohan James Atkins and Naren Philip Atkins; Marjorie’s children, Mary Ehrenberger, Reedsburg, Neil T. (Amy) Ehrenberger, Fort Collins, Colorado, Thomas L. (Kathleen) Ehrenberger, Bourbonnaise, Illinois, and Patrice M. (Brian) Madix, Park Forest, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, June; his son, Mark Steven Bauhs; two brothers, the Rev. Eugene J. Bauhs and Gordon Bauhs; and Marjorie’s son, Robert W. Ehrenberger.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends memorials to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Portage, St. Bernard’s Church, Sunrise, Florida, or your local hospice provider.
