George Washington Curtis was born August 13, 1894 at Britton, South Dakota, to Thomas and Elizabeth Curtis. With his parents, he moved to Columbia Falls in 1902 and later to Polson. In 1913, he returned to the Flathead and made his home in Kalispell. In January 1922, he married Margaret Hilling who preceded him in death in 1945.

Mr. Curtis was inducted into the Army at Kalispell on September 3, 1918, and served as express messenger with Company I, 62nd Infantry. He reenlisted April 16, 1919 at Camp Lee, Virginia and served with the American Forces in Germany. Mr. Curtis was honorably discharged at Cap Dix, New Jersey, May 5, 1920.

Before Mr. Curtis's health forced him to retire, he had worked as an express messenger. He died November 6, in the veterans hospital in Miles City.

Surviving him are his mother, Elizabeth Curtis of Kalispell; three sisters, Mrs. Iva Wells of Seattle, Mrs. Margaret Frock and Edith Johnson, both of Kalispell; and two brothers, Jack and Jim Curtis, both of Kalispell.
