Kay was born in Galion on July 27, 1936 to the late Ray and Ila (Bilger) Houk. She married Ernest F. VanDerKooi on October, 29, 1955 and he preceded her in death on January 3, 2001.
Kay graduated from Iberia High School. She retired from North Electric, Galion where she had worked in the payroll department for more than 30 years. Kay also worked at Galion Iron Works and AMCO, both of Galion and Universal Refrigeration, Ontario for 15 years. She loved motorcycle racing, that was her life. Her family was most important to her, she would drop everything she was doing for them. Kay loved to garage sale, going to breakfast and drinking coffee with her friends.
She is survived by four sons; John and Jan VanDerKooi, James and Jane VanDerKooi, Jack and Lisa VanDerKooi, Jerry and Julie VanDerKooi, eight grandchildren; Shara VanDerKooi, Brett and Molly VanDerKooi, Brad VanDerKooi, Joe VanDerKooi, Jay and Olivia VanDerKooi, Curtis VanDerKooi, Jamie VanDerKooi, Jarod VanDerKooi, Jacob VanDerKooi, four great-grandchildren; Gage, Serenity, Felicity, Emery, her sister; Vera Baker, her brother; Noel Houk, brother-in-law; George (Bud) VanDerKooi.
She was preceded in death by four sisters; Faith Houk, Iona Foust, Mary Boyer, Lois Foust; three brothers; Derald, Dana, Don Houk.
Friends may call Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Christine Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline.
