Mrs. Catherine VanBuskirk Cooper, a highly respected resident of Sauk Centre since 1907 passed away at the family home, on Maple street, Wednesday forenoon, April 15, 1925, after an illness of a very few days.
The deceased was born at Hackensack, Bagin county, N.J., Feb. 11, 1844. May 5, 1860 she was united in marriage to Cornelius Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper resided at Hackensack until 1876 when they came west, locating at Owatonna, where they resided for four years before they came to this section to take possession of the homestead at Little Sauk township, Todd county.
Mr. and Mrs. Cooper left the farm about 22 years ago. After a few years spent in the East they returned to Sauk Centre 18 years ago, since which time this city has been the family place of residence. Mr. Cooper died four years ago.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cooper, four of whom are living. They are: John Cooper, who resides on the old home farm in Little Sauk township; Mrs. Helena Van, Geddes, S.D.; Mrs. Aletta Jaeger, Canada, and Cornelius Cooper, Jr., Madras, Oregon. Harry Cooper passed away 14 years ago, and Lillie a baby daughter, died at the age of two years.
Mrs. Cooper led a very active life. She was about her usual duties on Easter day. She had been an ardent member of the Congregational church in this city for many years. The funeral services will be held from the Congregational church Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.S. Sparkes. The remains will be laid to rest beside those of her husband in Greenwood cemetery.
The children have the sympathy of a large number of old friends and neighbors in their affliction.
