Helen Pettibone, 89, Merriam, died at home, May 9, 2017. She was born Sept. 30, 1927 in KCMO. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1944. After retiring she devoted herself to a life-long interest in genealogy and passion for reading. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada Williams Atkisson, Ralph E. Atkisson, first husband Murray W. McKenzie (d. 1964), second husband Victor M. Pettibone (d. 1989), and sons Ralph M. McKenzie and Charles M. Pettibone. She is survived by daughters Kareen McKenzie, Maureen McKenzie Meeker (Jim), stepson Michael McKenzie (Laura), stepdaughters Patti McKenzie DeFrance (David) and Linda Pettibone Webb, brother- in-law Lester Pettibone, and former daughter-in-law Margie McKenzie as well as grandchildren, Kim McKenzie Clark, Kris- Ann McKenzie Carduff, Michele DeFrance Matney, John DeFrance, Nolan McKenzie Broddle, Ryan Meeker, Dylan Meeker, Robert Hoover, Kyle McKenzie, Patrick Pettibone, Christie Webb and 8 great-grandchildren. Helen requested cremation with interment at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. A celebration of her life will be held at Georgetown Apts. clubhouse, 7200 Eby Dr., Merriam, KS, Sunday, May 21st. 4:00 - 8:00 pm. We appreciate the support and loving care of Crossroads Hospice. She had an amazing life and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
