Martha was born to Magdalena and John Haar in Bowdle, South Dakota. She was only two years old when her mother passed away and she was raised by her stepmother Katherine. Marth had 10 siblings. She married Ervin Huber in Plevna, Montana on April 11, 1943. To this union were born 4 boys and 1 girl, Dennis (Beverly) of Billings, Montana, Gordon (Judy) of Kiowa, Colorado, Warren (Bonnie) of Higgins, Texas, Lyle of Billings, Montana, and Charlene (Danny Ball) of Billings, Montana. This family resulted in 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Martha is lovingly remembered by daughters-in-law Lynda, Janet and Debbie, and numerous stepchildren and great and great-great-grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, John and Magdalena, stepmother Katherine, her husband Ervin, 5 brothers, 4 sisters, a son Warren, a granddaughter Anne Huber and a son-in-law Tom Healy.
Martha cared for more than 200 foster children, gaining national recognition in 1970 as Montana’s Mother of the Year. Martha loved children and it was important to her that the children knew how much Jesus loved them. Martha’s continual prayer was that her children and grandchildren would accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and someday join her in Heaven.
Visitations will begin Wednesday morning at the Smith Downtown Chapel with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Bethel Baptist Church, 4119 Clevenger, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
