Rollie James Haar was born on July 12. 1931 in Bowdle, SD to John and Katherine (Zeeb) Haar. On February 1, 1951 he married Betty Jean Stephan at Tolstoy, SD. He entered the US Army on August 20, 1952 and was honorably discharged on August 4, 1954. In 1958 they owned and operated the Phillip 66 station and in 1966 owned and operated Rollie's Oil Company until 1981 when they sold the business. In 1982 they started a dairy business on the family farm near Westport they moved to Aberdeen in 1994. Betty died on November 5, 2005 in Aberdeen. He continued to make Aberdeen his home and six years ago he met his fiancé Janet Olson. Currently he was working part time on a bulk postal route to Gettysburg.
Rollie loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, puzzles, farming and working with cattle.
Grateful for having shared Rollie's life are his fiance, Janet Olson; children, Clarene "Punk" Stern, Lori Atanasu, Candy Gauer, Bubby (Lana) Haar; 13 grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; siblings, Martha Huber, Clifton Seidel, Marlene Steinbeck, Rev. Howard Haar and sister-in-law, LeNora Ford.
Rollie is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, daughter, Roxie, parents, John and Katherine, siblings, Oscar Haar, Emil Haar, Esther Huber, Edward Haar, Bernice Wilder and Florence Gerth.
