After finishing two years at Wharton County Junior College, she met the love of her life, James Porter, at the Pecan Grove Dance Hall in Wharton, Texas. James and Jo Ann were married in 1951. They spent 40 years living in Houma and Lafayette, Louisiana during the oil booms and busts. Upon retirement, they returned to El Campo and spent a wonderful 20 years on their ranch. Jo Ann was able to reunite with her high school friends, and they played bridge!
After the death of James in 2011, Jo Ann moved to Greatwood Retirement Home in Sugar Land, Texas and lived there for the past 6 years. During this time she was able to spend precious time with her daughters, her 4 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. And Jo Ann continued to play bridge! She played Duplicate Bridge online, and Poker, Bingo, and Black Jack with her friends at Greatwood!
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. at Greatwood Retirement Home in Sugar Land, Texas on Friday, May 12, 2017. Then immediately afterwards, a visitation will be held from 12 to 2pm at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo, Texas with a graveside ceremony following at 3 p.m. at Garden of Memories in El Campo.
